Reputation Management – The Hidden Power Of LinkedIn
When it comes to reputation, do you place any value on the opinions of your peers? You should! When it comes to reputation management, your peers may just hold part of the solution should a problem arise, especially if it’s an overt and unwarranted attack. These attacks do happen, and frequently, and generally come from either ex-employees or customers who just like to stir things up and get attention.
I mentioned in the title the hidden power of LinkedIn. As a social media marketing channel, it is often overlooked. This could be a mistake – it should be remembered that social media marketing is not necessarily targeting customers, it is targeting everyone with an interest in a particular niche – and this includes your peers. Networking is still a form of marketing and LinkedIn can be a great networking channel.
By developing strong links with others involved within your niche you can start to develop a positive reputation. If your reputation is positive, it can be easier to call on these peers for help whenever a negative campaign starts. Their assistance can come in various ways, including offering advice on how they have handled situations in the past and perhaps even in actions by publishing counter opinions to those that are damaging your reputation.
That of course is action after an event. Developing strong networks of peers within your niche has many other benefits. If you are seen in a positive light then those in your network will have no hesitation in recommending you to others and recommendations from peers can often be priceless. LinkedIn is the premier site when it comes to developing networks of peers. Use it wisely and you may find that relationships you build are an invaluable part of your reputation management program.
